The story so far…
HRV approached Health Works (a program of Western Region Health Centre) to be the key local agency and to partner with HRV in the roll out of the Peer Networker Program at the first site in Footscray. Both organisations promoted the program: HRV delivered small information sessions as a part of the recruitment process to get the word out there and to provide information about the program to anyone who was interested and HealthWorks spoke to individual clients they considered appropriate for the role. We were very fortunate to recruit 4 community minded and passionate peers.
The peer networkers completed a 5 day training course, which covered:
- Setting the scene for the program
- Blood borne viruses (BBV’s) e.g. HIV, hep C & hep B
- Safer Using
- Drug Overdose Prevention including naloxone training
- Putting it all together
